At Baobab Village Co. Ltd, Selous Mbega Camp, we have operated fly camps for a long time now. This is why we wish to give the fly- camping safari as such a seperate section as it does not fall into any other safari category as such, but incorporates a variety of safaris.

Fly Camps are always temporary, set up in remote corners of the reserve. Ideal for two to six guests, the emphasis is on expert guides, extremely high degree of personal attention walking & tailored trips for the fly- campers, tracking animals through forests, vleis and along the sandy shores of meandering rivers, exploring new and other areas further away from the main or base camp. It´s a magical expierence with evenings in the open, at a camp- fire with an uninterrupted cacophony of African calls all around you. But it is maybe not for everyone, as tents are simple though comfortable and animals wander around camp at night. There are cold or hot bucket- showers and toilet facilities are "long-drop" style. These trips are generally for old "Africa hands", as nothing is routine and close encounters are the norm. With all its bush charm, most people find fly- camping a very enriching expierence. As you would expect, they are more expensive than a normal safari.

At present we have two Fly- Camp locations within the Selous Game Reserve.

- LAKE SIWANDU FLY CAMP, Central Selous Game Reserve.

- MGETA RIVER FLY CAMP, Northern Selous Game Reserve, Kinyanguru Area.

These two Fly- Camps can be visited seperately, with a start and ending point in the Selous Mbega Camp, or a combined Fly- Camping trip can be done as below.
